COLUMBUS, GA. – The Columbus State baseball team opened Peach Belt Conference play with an 11-0 loss to Flagler College inside Burger King Stadium. The league opener for both sides ended after seven innings due to the NCAA run rule.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Flagler opened the game with a run in the top of the first to take an early lead before scoring five runs across the third and fourth innings of play.
- In the third, Columbus State threatened with runners on second and third with two outs, but both were left stranded with a groundout to short.
- Columbus State again put a runner in scoring position with two outs in the fourth inning before another groundout ended the frame.
- The Saints blew the game wide open in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits and one CSU fielding error to build an 11-0 advantage they would carry to the end of the contest.
- CSU put runners on first and second, again with two out, in the bottom of the seventh, but could not bring a run across to keep the game alive.
NOTES
- Senior Bryce Knox had his second straight three-hit performance, finishing 3-for-3 at the plate.
- Fellow senior Michael Cruz was the only other Cougar with a hit, turning in a 1-for-3 performance.
