HICKORY, N.C. – A three-game road series against No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne University came to an end on Sunday afternoon for Columbus State baseball as the Bears earned a 13-2 victory at Durham Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the second inning of play.
- Columbus State tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth when senior Warrick Wilmot blasted a two-run home run down the right field line, his first long ball of the season.
- The Bears immediately responded in the home half of the fourth with a lead off home run to build a 3-2 advantage before adding two more runs in the frame to lead 5-2 through four innings.
- LR extended its lead to 13-2 with eight additional runs across the next three innings, including three runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh.
NOTES
- Wilmot finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two RBI and a run scored.
- Juniors Cole Eison and Kole McGlumphy each recorded a hit on the day, while redshirt-freshman Jonathan Croxton collected his first career hit and reached base twice in his collegiate debut.
- Senior right-hander Christian Harmon made his first appearance of the season out of the bullpen, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts across 1.1 scoreless innings on the mound.
