COLUMBUS – Behind a career-high 33 points from
Marlon Smith, Columbus State men's basketball defeated USCA 87-74 at the Lumpkin Center to secure the season sweep of the Pacers.
In a tight back-and-forth battle with 29 lead changes and eight ties, the Cougars used five double-figure scorers to clinch the home win over the Pacers. The win moved CSU to 19-7 overall and 13-5 in conference play. The Cougars have also now won five in a row and sit in second place in the PBC standings.
Smith led the squad with a career-high 33 points, passing his previous career high of 31. The win was the senior's 24th game this season finishing in double figures.
Smith was joined in double figures by four other Cougars:
Jydon Hall and
Jaylen Harris with 11 a piece, and
Jordan Mitchell and
Lee Langstaff II with 10 points each.
USCA led by one at the half, up 39-38, but the Cougars retook the lead with 12 minutes left in the game and held that lead until the end, outscoring the Pacers 49-35 in the second half.
As a team, the Cougars went 15-for-30 from deep, with Smith sinking six of the 15 threes for the team. Smith also went a perfect 5-for-5 form the free throw line.
