AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Columbus State University Women's Basketball team earned a gritty 73-64 road victory over Augusta University Wednesday night in Peach Belt Conference action inside the Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Columbus State controlled the tempo early, jumping out to a 21-10 lead after the first quarter behind efficient shooting and defensive pressure. The Lady Cougars carried a 37-28 advantage into halftime before Augusta responded with a strong third-quarter push to tighten the contest.
Letiya Reeves led all scorers with 25 points, knocking down four three-pointers while adding four rebounds and five assists.
Nekaya Williams followed with nine points on an efficient 4-for-5 shooting night, while
Samara Saunders added six points, five rebounds, and three steals.
Nadea Smith provided a spark off the bench with eight points and three rebounds, and
Alana Hankerson chipped in nine points, including three three-pointers.
Columbus State finished with 31 bench points and scored 28 points off Augusta turnovers. The Lady Cougars also controlled the glass, finishing with a 36-35 rebounding edge, held the Jaguars to 50 percent shooting from the field, and led for 37 minutes of game time.
Columbus State is now 18-3, and 12-2 in the Peach Belt, and will return home to continue Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday, February 7, hosting Clayton State University inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center. Tip-off scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
