MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. – The Columbus State baseball team never trailed in a 5-1 victory over Georgia College and State University on Friday evening in a Peach Belt Conference matchup at John Kurtz Field
The Cougars are now 12-8 overall on the season with a 7-3 mark in League play, while the Bobcats fall to 9-14 with a 6-7 Peach Belt record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first inning, Columbus State scored twice in the top of the second to build an early 2-0 lead and never looked back. Senior Michael Cruz and junior Jacob Smith each had an RBI in the inning.
- The Bobcats' lone run of the game came in the bottom of the second inning, as Columbus State starter Sawyer Wilson (4-1) allowed just three hits in a complete game performance.
- In the sixth inning, Smith added another RBI single to his stat sheet, while seniors Jackson Chizek and Bryce Knox each had RBI singles in the seventh inning for the Cougars.
NOTES
- Wilson recorded his first career complete game at the college level, striking out five batters with just two walks to earn his fourth consecutive win on the mound.
- Smith finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI on the day, while Knox and junior Cole Eison recorded two hits each in the win.
