COLUMBUS, GA. – The Columbus State women's tennis team, ranked No. 12 in the most recent ITA Poll, celebrated Senior Day with a 7-0 shutout of fellow Peach Belt Conference member Lander University on Wednesday from the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
Columbus State is now 14-4 overall with a perfect 6-0 record in PBC play, while Lander falls to 8-8 on the year with a 1-5 conference mark.
The Cougars celebrated their four-member senior class of
Annie Adams,
Nikoline Gullacksen,
Laura Pesickova, and
Monika Temkova in its annual Senior Day ceremony before the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Columbus State ended doubles play with a 1-0 lead following wins at Nos. 1 and 2. The duo of (47) senior Laura Pesickova and Isabell Ek won 6-4 in the top doubles flight, while senior Nikoline Gullacksen and junior Monika Temkova won 6-3 at No. 2.
- The Cougars swept singles play to complete the shutout and claim the top spot in next weekend's Peach Belt Conference Championship.
- (14) Gullacksen was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at No. 1, and Temkova won 6-4, 6-4 in the second flight.
- Freshman Claudia De Lucas was dominant in a 6-0, 6-0 victory on court three, while redshirt-sophomore Sofia Lauretti won 6-2, 6-4 in her match at No. 4.
- Ek won 6-4, 6-3 in the fifth flight, and junior Maria Markosov completed the clean sweep with a 6-2, 7-6 victory on court six.

Columbus State finishes off its regular season on Friday, April 17, when the team travels to Milledgeville, Georgia, for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with Georgia College. With a win, the Cougars will win the outright Peach Conference Regular Season crown.
