McCoy Departs Columbus State Golf Program

6/30/2026

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Columbus State University announced that Director of Golf Lee McCoy has departed the program to pursue another opportunity.

"Lee has had a tremendous impact on our men's golf program and continued the proud tradition of one of the premier golf programs in Division II," said Director of Athletics Justin Hay. "His leadership, ability to develop student-athletes, and commitment to excellence elevated every aspect of our program. We are grateful for all he has done for Columbus State Athletics and wish Lee and his family nothing but success in this next chapter."

McCoy spent three seasons leading the Cougar men's golf program and guided Columbus State through one of the most successful stretches in program history.

During the 2025-26 season, McCoy led the Cougars to a runner-up finish at the Peach Belt Conference Championship and guided the program to its first appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championship Match Play. Columbus State recorded six top-four finishes during the season, including runner-up performances at the Hurricane Invitational, Southeastern Collegiate and Peach Belt Conference Championship.

Under McCoy's leadership, the Cougars advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship in each of the last two seasons. In 2024-25, Columbus State captured the McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate Invitational title and finished fourth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional to earn a berth in the national championship.

McCoy was named the 2026 Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year and coached three NCAA Division II PING All-Americans during his tenure. The program also produced multiple All-Peach Belt Conference, All-Southeast Region and Peach Belt Conference All-Academic selections under his guidance.

McCoy arrived at Columbus State in June of 2023 following an accomplished collegiate and professional playing career. Columbus State thanks McCoy for his contributions in returning the men's golf program to national prominence and wishes him and his family the best in their future endeavors.

A national search for McCoy's replacement will begin immediately.
