Box Score Pembroke, N.C. - The eighth ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team shutout UNC Pembroke 1-0 Friday night handing the hosts their first loss of the season.  The win brings CSU's record to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference while the Braves drop to 3-1 on the year and 0-1 in PBC play.
The long road trip to North Carolina seemed to affect Columbus State in the early stages of the contest as they couldn't get a consistent flow to the game.  The Lady Cougars were unable to create many quality chances as only one shot was put on frame, but fortunately it was the game's only goal.  Emily Husted was able to take on two defenders in the box and slid her shot past the goalie for her first goal of the season.  CSU went into the half ahead 1-0 even though being out 8-5 in the first half.
CSU began to get a better feel of the game in the second half and created a couple of more opportunities.  Stephanie Parrish had the Lady Cougars best opportunity, but was unable to pick up her first goal of the year.  Stephanie Lowery also created a nice scoring chance but UNC Pembroke goalie Britney Bennett was up to the challenge.
The defense again played a stellar game as the Braves have scored multiple goals in all their previous contests before tonight.  Senior Jordan McKenzie locked down Faye Corbett while the central defender duo of senior Laurel McKenzie and freshman Kansas Bayly shutdown the Peach Belt's leading scoring Anna Svensson.  Sophomore Mary Mancin picked up her third win of the year stopping three shots in the first half.  Freshman Willi Babillis kept the clean slate denying two UNC Pembroke shots.  Columbus State outshot the hosts 10-4 in the second half.
The Lady Cougars will have an off day before taking on Pfeiffer University Sunday at noon.  The Falcons are coming into the contest off a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Lenoir-Rhyne earlier in the week.
