Columbus - For the second consecutive match, the 10th-ranked Lady Cougars had to play into double overtime coming away with a scoreless draw with North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference tilt Wednesday evening at the North Georgia Soccer Complex in Dahlonega.
It is the first tie of the season for Columbus State as they now stand at 13-1-1 overall and 6-1-1 in league play while the Saints move their mark to 10-3-2 on the year and 3-3-2 on PBC action.
Scoring opportunities were at a premium this evening as CSU was unable to create much offensively throughout the night registering their only shot attempt of the first half in the 18th minute as Jaci Carithers headed one high off a Stephanie Lowery corner kick.
The Lady Cougars best scoring opportunity in regulation came in the in the 70th minute when Shea Wilby put a shot on frame but a North Georgia player made a team save to keep the game scoreless.
Ashley Miller was nearly the hero for the second straight match as the junior hit a shot that ricocheted of the crossbar and bounced to Tori Hood who looked to have the game-winner but another NGA defender kept the ball from crossing the goal line and kept the game knotted at zero.
Mary Mancin kept a clean sheet for Columbus State picking up three saves while her counterpart Mallory Sayer had a pair of saves.
This was just the second time this season that the Lady Cougars has been outshot in a contest as North Georgia held a 16-9 advantage. Both sides took five corner kicks apiece.
CSU will return to the Walden Soccer Complex this Saturday as they close out the home portion of the regular season when they host Lander in another pivotal PBC match-up. Prior to the match, seven seniors will be honored for all their contributions over the past four seasons to the soccer program. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
