Columbus - Behind a flurry of second half goals, the fifth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team raced past Georgia College 5-0 on Wednesday night at the Walden Soccer Complex.
Despite a 13-1 Columbus State (7-0-1, 3-0-0) shot advantage, the two sides went to the locker room at halftime scoreless.
It wouldn't stay scoreless for long though, as the Lady Cougars broke through in the second half.
It was Chelsea Person who opened the floodgates for CSU putting the Lady Cougars on the board in the 56th minute. The redshirt-junior took a ball and dribbled past a defender sending a shot across the box to the far post and into the net. Person has now scored in four consecutive games and has five goals during that stretch.
Less than a minute later, the Lady Cougars struck again. Taylor Marks played a perfect corner kick into the center of the box finding the head of Courtney Jacquay, who finished it off for her first of the season.
The scoring kept coming in the 65th minute as sophomore Mandy Janowitz took a failed clearance and beat the keeper for her first of the year.
The runs of first goals continued in minute 83, as Shauna Griffin took a clearance and put CSU on the board again with her first of the season.
With the score already at 4-0, Janowitz found the net once more. The Alpharetta, Ga. native took a pass from Ashley Miller a flicked a shot with the outside of her right foot into the far post for her second of the night.
Columbus State dominated all night registering 27 shots and earning nine corner kicks.
Georgia College (2-6-1, 0-4-0) managed just two shots on the night.
Maylyn Parsons played all 90 minutes in net stopping the lone GC shot on goal. The shutout was her fourth of the year in eight matches.
