Cleveland, Tenn. - Despite a combined 28 shots between the two teams, the fifth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team played Lee University to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night. The match was played at the Lee Soccer Field in Cleveland, Tenn.
Columbus State (3-0-1) started fast out of the gates getting its first opportunity at the net in the 6th minute. Stephanie Kolwicz took the first CSU shot of the night forcing Lee goalkeeper Marbel Egwuenu to make the first of her eight saves.
The Lady Cougars outshot the Lady Flames (1-3-1) 6-1 over the first 45 minutes.
CSU continued to threaten in the second half with two strong chances at scoring the first goal.
In the 59th minute, Shea Wilby put a shot on net that required a diving save from Egwuenu. The same thing happened with under seven minutes to play as Kiana Nicholson forced another diving save.
In the overtime periods, the best scoring chance belonged to the Lady Flames. With less than one minute to play in the second overtime, Kathryn Healy came within feet of ending the match, but her header sailed just wide of the far post.
Maylyn Parsons recorded her third consecutive shutout for CSU saving four shots over 110 minutes. The sophomore has now played 305 minutes since she last allowed a goal.
Columbus State returns to action on Saturday as the Lady Cougars open up Peach Belt Conference play against rival Armstrong. Kickoff from Savannah, Ga. is set for 1:00 p.m.
