COLUMBUS – With just five matches remaining in the regular season, the Columbus State University volleyball team will travel to take on Georgia College on Tuesday night. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Centennial Center in Milledgeville.

Columbus State fell in straight sets at Flagler on Saturday, marking just the second time this season the Lady Cougars have been swept.
Mary McCarty led CSU with nine kills on the day.

"Every match is so important from here on out. We are in the stretch run heading toward the conference tournament, so we need to be playing our best from here on out. Georgia College played well against us last time and will be a tough match on Tuesday."

Georgia College's win earlier this season gives the Bobcats a 4-3 edge in seven all-time meetings. Columbus State is 1-2 in three matches in Milledgeville.

The two teams alternated the first four sets of the match, but GC took the fifth set 15-11 to defeat the Lady Cougars 3-2 on September 17 in Columbus.
Zoemy Barreto Pereira turned in a huge double-double of 17 kills and 20 digs, while
Caytlin Merritt set a new program record with 31 digs.

Tuesday's match will start four consecutive matches at home for the Bobcats who are 15-8 overall and 6-5 in Peach Belt Conference play.

GC split a pair of games on the road last weekend. The Bobcats fell 3-1 at Francis Marion, but rebounded with a 3-0 sweep at UNC Pembroke.

The Bobcats rank in the top five in the PBC in kills (12.4), assists (11.6), digs (17.6) and blocks (1.8) per set.

Sophomores Taylor Svehla (2.76) and Ebony Powers (2.61) lead the Bobcats in kills per set, while junior Chandler Ewaldsen ranks second in the conference with 5.09 digs per set.

Columbus State (14-9, 5-8) currently sits in eighth place in the PBC standings. The Lady Cougars are one game back of seventh place in the league as they make a push to qualify for the eight-team PBC Tournament.

Tuesday's match is one of two remaining road games for the Lady Cougars in the regular season. CSU will be at home for two this weekend before traveling to Augusta next Wednesday.

The Lady Cougars scored their biggest win of the season last Friday night, as they defeated Armstrong State for the first time in program history.

Columbus State continues to lead the Peach Belt Conference in service aces, totaling 166 on the season.
