Stephen WilliamsCOLUMBUS – Playing in its annual home tournament, the Columbus State University women's golf team is in third place after Monday's opening round of the 2016 Lady Cougar Classic. The two-day event is being played at the Country Club of Columbus.
The Lady Cougars posted a team score of 329 to finish in the middle of the five-team field. Montevallo (299) leads the field after 18 holes of play, with Lee (319) in second place. North Georgia (330) and Point (364) round out the field.
Shelby Banta turned in the best round of the day for the Lady Cougars. The sophomore picked up her lone birdie on the 14
th hole on her way to a round of eight-over par 80. She is tied for seventh overall.
Sarah Grace drop is just one shot back of her teammate after a round of 81. The freshman also picked up a birdie on the par 3 14
th and is in 11
th place.
Jordan Booker was the only player in the field to birdie the par 3 5
th as she shot 11-over par on the day. She is tied for 12
th overall after a round of 83.
Hannah Holland closed out the team scoring for the Lady Cougars with a round of 85 and is in 16
th place.
Bailey Hochgertle posted the drop score on the day firing a 95.
Columbus State will wrap up play on Tuesday, with the first Lady Cougar scheduled to tee off at 9:20 a.m.
