SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Competing in the annual Peach Belt Conference Championship, the Columbus State University women's golf team is in sixth place after Friday's opening round of play. The tournament is being held at the Slammer and Squire Course in Saint Augustine, Fla.

The Lady Cougars carded a first round of 328 to sit in sixth place overall. Armstrong State (301) holds a seven-shot lead over Flagler (308) after 18 holes of play. UNC Pembroke (311), Montevallo (313) and Young Harris (317) make up the rest of the top five.

Bailey Hochgertle posted the low round of the day for the Lady Cougars, shooting a six-over par 78 on Friday. After a double bogey to start the round, Hochgertle immediately rebounded with a pair of birdies on two and three. The freshman made the turn at one-over before going five-over on the backside. She is tied for 12
th place overall.

Jordan Booker and
Sarah Grace Drop each turned in rounds of 83 to be tied for 27
th place after day one. Booker recorded birdies on the fourth and 13
th holes on her way to 11-over, while Drop picked up pars on five of her first six holes on the day.

Shelby Banta and
Hannah Holland rounded out the Lady Cougar score, with each at 12-over par after shooting 84. Banta picked up her lone birdie of the day on the fourth, while Holland turned in a red number on the fifth. The pair is tied for 31
st.

Play will continue on Saturday with the second of three rounds.
