FLORENCE, S.C. – Playing in its sixth straight Peach Belt Conference championship match, the eighth-ranked and second-seeded Columbus State University women's tennis team dropped a 5-0 contest to fourth-ranked and top-seeded Armstrong State Sunday morning. The tournament took place at Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.
The Lady Cougars (19-6) will now have to wait until Tuesday, May 3 to find out their NCAA Tournament fate.
Armstrong (26-1) swept doubles play to take an early 3-0 lead. Carolina Prats Millian and Alice Patch recorded the first win of the day at third doubles taking down
Rachael Williams and
Olivera Tadijin 8-3. At the second spot, Nicole Fossa Huergo and Lena Pacholski defeated
Beatriz Leon and
Giorgia Vitale 8-2. In a top-10 showdown at the top spot, the third-ranked tandem of Lena Lutzeier and Diana Stomlega knocked off the 10
th-ranked duo of
Camila Tobar and
Kirsa Utech 8-3.
In singles action, 48
th-ranked Prats Millian defeated Tadijin 6-1, 6-1 before Alice Patch clinched the victory for the Pirates with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Williams.
When play was called, 14
th-ranked Leon was leading ninth-ranked Lutzeier after a set while Utech was also up a set against Stomlega at the fourth spot. Armstrong won the opening set in both second and fifth singles.

For her efforts, Leon was named the PBC Tournament's most valuable player in singles.
