AMERICUS, Ga. – The eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team took the court for the first time in nearly a week and breezed to a 9-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex in Americus, Ga.
With the win, the Lady Cougars are now 14-5 on the year and 9-1 inside PBC play. GSW falls to 4-14 and 0-9 in conference action.
Columbus State lost just two games in the three doubles matches as the Lady Cougars earned the doubles sweep. At the top spot, the 10th-ranked duo of
Camila Tobar and
Kirsa Utech blanked Anneliese Leahy and Sydnee Smith 8-0. It was another sweep for CSU at second doubles as
Beatriz Leon and
Giorgia Vitale flew by Kendall Crew and Celia Castillo-Torres 8-0.
Olivera Tadijin and
Saravinder Pannu had no problem at third doubles taking down Jamie Thomas and Lauren Resnick 8-2.
The Lady Cougars continued their good play in singles as five of the six matches ended in a 6-0, 6-0 CSU win. Fourteenth-ranked Leon and 36th-ranked Tobar took care of business for Columbus State at the first two spots taking down Castillo-Torres and Crew, respectively.
At fourth singles, Utech swept Leahy while Vitale was a winner against Resnick at the fifth spot. Pannu notched a victory at the sixth spot against Thomas.
Third singles was the lone match that Georgia Southwestern was able to win a few games. However in the end, Tadijin still won easily 6-4, 6-2 over Smith.
Columbus State will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon hosting West Alabama at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center. All the action will begin at noon.
