COLUMBUS – Wrapping up a stretch of three straight home matches, the Columbus State University volleyball team will take on Albany State on Tuesday night. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside the Lumpkin Center.

Columbus State (6-3) dropped a tight five-set match against Georgia College on Saturday. The Lady Cougars fell in the first and third sets, but responded each time and sent the match into the fifth. A late rally came up just short though as CSU lost the final game 15-11.

"We have to shake off the weekend and take care of business on Tuesday. We played well in a lot of spots, but we have to continue cutting back on our errors if we want to win games."

The Lady Rams come into Tuesday's contest at 2-6 overall, but won their most recent match 3-0 over Paine College last week. Junior Justice Howard leads the way for Albany State with 63 kills on the season, averaging 2.1 per set. Kiara Thompson leads on the defensive side with 105 digs through eight matches.

The Lady Cougars are trying to bounce back from two losses in Peach Belt Conference play over the weekend.

Zoemy Barreto Pereira turned in a strong performance on Saturday, setting season highs in both kills (17) and digs (20). Merritt broke her own single-match record for digs, tallying 31 against Georgia College.

Abby King has turned up her numbers over the last three matches, totaling 140 assists and averaging nearly 11 per set.

The Lady Cougars are hitting .191 as a team through the first nine matches of the season, a major improvement from 2015 when they hit just .125.
