COLUMBUS – After a huge road victory on Wednesday, the ninth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team travels to Pembroke, N.C. Saturday to take on UNC Pembroke. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Varsity Grounds.
Last Time Out
The Lady Cougars scored three first-half goals on their way to a 3-2 victory at ninth-ranked North Georgia on Wednesday night in Dahlonega, Ga.
Mandy Janowitz rifled in a long shot to start the scoring, while
Flo Spano and
Taylor Marks found the net as well. The victory was the sixth straight for CSU against North Georgia.
Entlich on Matchup
"This is another typical Peach Belt Conference match. We have to be prepared to play on the road against a talented UNCP club. We still have plenty of places to improve and we hope we take a step in the right direction on Saturday."
Series History
Columbus State is 16-2-1 all-time against the Braves. CSU started the series 0-1-1 and has won 16 out of 17 meetings since, including eight in a row. The last UNCP victory came in 2011.
Last Meeting
The Lady Cougars scored a pair of goals in each half as they wrapped up the 2015 regular season with a 4-0 victory on October 31.
Chelsea Person scored twice, while
Olivia Jarrell and
Cassandra Wade padded the lead as well.
Maylyn Parsons and
Paige Betsill combined to keep the Braves out of the net.
About UNC Pembroke
After dropping the first two matches of the season, the Braves enter Saturday's match on a three-game winning streak. UNCP opened conference play on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory over Clayton State.
Freshman goalkeeper Gina Ryan has recorded three consecutive shutouts and leads the league with a 0.22 goals against average. The Braves have played 289 straight minutes without allowing a goal.
Despite a 3-2-0 record, UNC Pembroke has only scored five goals on the season. Carly Rochelle and Kristina Stevenson have each scored twice.
CSU Notes
Working against the stingiest defense in the league, Columbus State scored three goals in a 22-minute span on Wednesday night. North Georgia had previously allowed just two goals in four matches to start the year.
Spano scored the second Lady Cougar goal, marking her fourth tally in the last two matches. The freshman currently leads the Lady Cougars in goals (4), assists (4) and points (12).
With Marks' goal on Wednesday, she became the 11
th different Lady Cougar to score this season. CSU is averaging 3.5 goals per match in 2016.
The Lady Cougars are currently riding a 33-match unbeaten streak against Peach Belt Conference opponents.
