COLUMBUS – With two wins already under its belt and a freshly-minted No. 1 ranking, the Columbus State University women's soccer team will hit the road on Friday for the first of two road matches this weekend in the Sunshine State.

The Lady Cougars will take on Lynn on Friday night at 7 p.m. before an 11 a.m. kickoff at No. 12 Barry on Sunday.

"We had a good start to the season last weekend, but we know we have two really tough opponents coming up," head coach
Jay Entlich said. "We have to continue to grow and improve in all facets of the game if we want to continue winning."

Last Meeting

Columbus State (2-0) and Lynn will be meeting for the second consecutive season after the Lady Cougars picked up a 2-0 victory over the Fighting Knights in the 2015 opener.
Olivia Jarrell scored both goals for the Lady Cougars in her first collegiate match.

The Lady Cougars' Sunday match at Barry will be a rematch of the 2015 national quarterfinals. CSU defeated fourth-ranked Barry 2-0 at Carson-Newman to advance to the final four.

th minute of play and
Nicole Corcione iced the match with a tally with just under 15 minutes remaining. CSU is 4-0 all-time against the Bucs, including a 2-0 mark at BU.

Lynn (1-1) picked up a split on the opening weekend, earning a 2-0 victory over Queens before taking a 2-1 loss against Lenoir-Rhyne. The Fighting Knights finished just 3-12-2 in 2015, but return eight starters including their top three goal scorers. Redshirt-sophomore Donish Cole scored all three goals for LU during the opening weekend, with senior Caroline Duerr assisting on a pair.

The 2015 South Region champion, Barry (1-0) opened the season with a 2-0 win against Lenoir-Rhyne last Friday. Sophomore Molly Sharpe and junior Christy Grimshaw netted the pair of goals for the Bucs. Barry was voted second in the Sunshine State Conference preseason poll and has won three consecutive conference championships.

CSU Notes

Columbus State jumped to the No. 1 spot in the NSCAA rankings on Tuesday for the first time in program history after defeating then-No. 18 North Alabama and Wingate during the CSU Collegiate Invitational.

It took the Lady Cougars less than 10 minutes to see their offense get rolling as
Cassandra Wade and Corcione each scored early in the season opener as CSU eased out to a 3-0 win. Corcione tallied another goal on Sunday and freshman
Riley Clark made her first collegiate goal a big one, breaking a one-all tie to lift CSU past Wingate.
