Postseason Begins Tuesday for Lady Cougars

COLUMBUS – With the regular season behind it, the eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team will start its postseason journey on Tuesday against Lander in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.

Last Time Out
 
Columbus State (13-2-0, 8-2-0 PBC) dropped its regular season finale 2-1 at Georgia College on Saturday despite outshooting the Bobcats 22-10. Olivia Jarrell scored the lone Lady Cougar goal.

"Lander is a very dangerous team. They gave us everything we could handle at their place and we were fortunate to get a result. We need to be efficient around the net and sharp on the defensive end on Tuesday."
 
Last Meeting
 
Columbus State struck first with a goal from Olivia Jarrell in the 16th minute. However, Lander would level the match in the 75th minute forcing overtime. Jarrell would strike again in the extra period, netting her second goal of the day for the victory.
 
Series History
 
Tuesday will be the 17th all-time meeting between the two programs, with the Lady Cougars holding a 13-1-2 record against the Bearcats. CSU and Lander met in the 2010 and 2015 PBC Tournaments, both Columbus State victories.
 
About Lander
 
Lander (8-7-0, 4-6-0) is the seventh seed in this year's conference tournament and snapped a three-match losing streak Saturday at Georgia Southwestern.
 
The Bearcats are back in the PBC Tournament after missing it last season and are looking for their first tournament victory since 2013.
 
Lander is averaging just 1.47 goals per match this season and holds a goals-against average of 1.25.
 
Hannah Martin scored the only LU goal against CSU in September and leads the Bearcats in scoring with six goals.

Columbus State is making its 13th overall appearance in the PBC Tournament, with a 28-4-1 all-time mark in the postseason event.
 
The Lady Cougars are 11-1 in PBC quarterfinals, including a 6-2 victory over Lander in the 2015 tournament.
 
Columbus State has won the last three tournaments and its seven titles are the most in PBC history.
 
Olivia Jarrell was the Most Valuable Player of the 2016 tournament after scoring four goals in three matches.
