COLUMBUS – Head coach Robert Moore will begin his eighth season at the helm of the Columbus State University men's basketball program on Friday night, as the Cougars take on former Peach Belt Conference rival Montevallo. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Albany State University.

Last Meeting
 
Columbus State dropped an 85-72 decision at Montevallo last February. JaCori Payne scored 28 points to lead the Cougars, while Darius Joell added 10 points and eight assists.
 
Series History
 
Montevallo has controlled the all-time series with the Cougars, winning 24 of the 32 all-time matchups. Prior to the loss in February, Columbus State had won two straight against the Falcons.
 
About Montevallo
 
Montevallo left the Peach Belt Conference after the 2016-17 year and is now a member of the Gulf South Conference.
 
The Falcons are off to a slow start to the 2017-18 season, opening up with a 1-3 record through four games.
 
Montevallo lost three straight to open the year before getting a 61-52 victory at Claflin on Saturday.
 
Chris Williams leads the Falcons in scoring at 15.8 points per game, including a pair of 27-point outings.
 
CSU Notes
 
The Cougars open the season after being picked to finish third in the PBC.
 
Columbus State lit up the outside shooting in its lone exhibition against LaGrange, knocking down 14-of-24 3-pointers.
 
Seven different players hit a 3-pointer in the win, with five knocking down at least two.
 
JaCori Payne led the Cougars with 17 points, while junior transfer Jalen Thomas added 12.
