COLUMBUS – After a strong showing in Saturday's season opener, the third-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team will take on second-ranked Grand Valley State Monday morning. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.

The Lady Cougars put six goals on the board in the first 45 minutes on their way to a 7-0 victory over Union.
Olivia Jarrell and
Cassandra Wade tallied the first two goals of the match, while
Riley Clark found the back of the net twice.

Tehgan Anguilm capped the scoring with a penalty kick in the second half.

Last Meeting
Columbus State and Grand Valley State met in the 2016 national semifinals, with the Lakers advancing behind a 3-0 victory. The Lady Cougars dominated the first 35 minutes of play, but it was GVSU that struck first in the 38
th minute. The Lakers then added two more goals in the second half.
Series History
Monday will be the fifth meeting between the two programs. Columbus State is 0-3-1 against the Lakers, including a pair of postseason losses the last two seasons.

Grand Valley State took a 2-1 loss in double overtime to Bellarmine on Saturday, surrendering the game-winner in the 109
th minute.
The Lakers have won five of the last eight national championships, including a win over Columbus State in the 2015 title match.
GVSU returns six starters and 15 players overall from last year's national runner-up team.
Senior Gabriella Mencotti is the top returner for the Lakers after leading the country in scoring last year with 29 goals and 13 assists.

Ten different Lady Cougars made their debut on Saturday, with five freshmen in the starting lineup.
The 7-0 victory over Union was the largest season-opening win in program history.
Columbus State scored at least seven goals in four matches last season on its way to leading Division II in goals per game.
Jarrell's goal at 3:20 was the fastest season-opening goal for the Lady Cougars since 2012, when Kelsey Pelletier scored on a penalty kick at 3:03.
