CSU heads into the final match of the season with the conference championship already in hand, having clinched the regular season title last Saturday. The championship was the sixth straight for the Lady Cougars and 12
th in program history.
Â
While the conference is already decided, CSU still has plenty to play for on Saturday. The Lady Cougars are currently the top-ranked team in the NCAA Southeast Region poll, which would earn them a bye in the first round of the NCAA Tournament if they could secure the top seed.
Â
Columbus State is also trying to complete just its second unbeaten regular season in program history. The Lady Cougars finished the 2014 regular season without a loss and are trying to do the same this year.
Â
Saturday will be the 22
nd all-time meeting between the two programs, with CSU holding a 17-3-1 mark in the series. The Lady Cougars had their eight-match winning streak against UNG snapped with last season's 3-2 defeat. Columbus State is 5-0-1 in six trips to Dahlonega.
Â
North Georgia (10-3-1, 6-2-1) started the season with nine wins in its first 10 matches, but has stumbled to a 1-2-1 record over its last four contests. The Nighthawks lost 1-0 in overtime at UNC Pembroke on Tuesday.
Â
UNG ranks as the second-best offensive team in the Peach Belt at 3.07 goals per match, trailing only the Lady Cougars at 4.21.
