COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University women's soccer team will dive back into Peach Belt Conference play on Sunday hosting USC Aiken at the Walden Soccer Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with real-time statistics and live video available on CSUCougars.com.
About the Columbus State University Lady Cougars
The Lady Cougars are coming off the most exciting victory this year on Wednesday. With less than one second left in the match, Riley Clark found the back of the net to give CSU a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Nova Southeastern. It was just the second goal allowed by NSU all season.
Columbus State is currently eighth in the Peach Belt Conference standings with a 2-4 record and six points.
CSU is just one of two teams in the PBC to have scored 30 or more goals in 2019.
About the USC Aiken Pacers
USC Aiken will enter the contest with a 1-9 overall record. Inside the Peach Belt this season, the Pacers are 1-4 with its lone win coming against Albany State on Oct. 5.
The Pacers fell 3-0 at Clayton State on Wednesday. It was their second consecutive scoreless match.
Willia Olson is the leading scorer for USC Aiken this season with four goals. Gressa Olson has added three of her own.
Series History
Columbus State is a perfect 17-0-0 all-time against USC Aiken with the series dating back to 2004. Last season, CSU defeated the Pacers 3-0 in Aiken, S.C.
Team Notes
• Columbus State will be looking to extend it's winning streak to four matches on Sunday. It will be the longest streak for the Lady Cougars in 2019.
• The Lady Cougars haven't allowed a goal against USC Aiken since the 2014 season. All-time, Columbus State has outscored the Pacers 78-4.
• After being shutout in three consecutive matches earlier this season, CSU has now scored in seven straight.
• Columbus State finished their nonconference portion of its schedule on Wednesday with a 5-2 record.
• The Lady Cougars remain inside the top-25 in the nation for goals scored. Through 13 matches, CSU has scored 30 times to rank 24th in the country.
• CSU will be looking for back-to-back shutouts for the first time in 2019. Overall, Columbus State has blanked three opponents (Catawba, Young Harris, and Nova Southeastern).
Clark, Goodfellow Earn PBC Weekly Awards
For the first time this season, Columbus State players were honored by the Peach Belt Conference for their play. Riley Clark was named the PBC Player of the Week while Madeline Goodfellow was tabbed as the Defender of the Week.
Clark scored four goals last week to earn the honor while Goodfellow helped limit Young Harris to just four shots in the shutout victory.
Climbing the Record Book
Riley Clark is in the midst of one of the best stretches of her career. After scoring the heroic game-winner against Nova Southeastern, the senior has now scored in six straight matches, the longest such streak in her career. On Oct. 12, Clark collected her third career hat trick against Clayton State.
She is fifth all-time in Columbus State history with 47 goals while also being tied for seventh all-time in Peach Belt Conference history. She became just the 12th player in the PBC to join the 100-point club.
Flo Spano is also moving up on the all-time assist list in Columbus State history. After grabbing two more against Clayton State, the senior has 27 in her career to rank fourth all-time.
Balanced Scoring Attack
Columbus State has found goals from a variety of different players so far this season. Against Young Harris last Wednesday, Bre Harvey and Maddie DeFranco got into the goal column becoming the ninth and 10th different players to score for the Lady Cougars. Overall, 14 players have recorded a point so far in 2019.
Fall Magic
The Lady Cougars have been once of the most successful programs in the entire nation since 2013, but in the month of October, CSU seems to hit its stride. Over the last six-plus seasons, Columbus State has posted a record of 54-5 in October. The .915 winning percentage is the highest of any month for CSU.
Entlich Among the Nation's Best
Since starting the program in 2004, Jay Entlich has established CSU women's soccer into a national powerhouse. With an overall record of 266-62-24 at CSU, he is the winningest coach in PBC history. His overall coaching record of 288-78-24 puts him eighth all-time at the NCAA Division II level.
He has coached four PBC Player of the Year award winners and has been named the conference's Coach of the Year in every season since 2014.
