DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After a season opening win, the fourth-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team will clash with 20th-ranked Barry to close out play in the Embry-Riddle Invitational. About the Columbus State Lady Cougars
Offense wasn't a problem for Columbus State in its first match of the season scoring three early goals in a 4-2 victory over Embry-Riddle Saturday night. Junior Maddy Peterson knocked in two while senior Riley Clark and junior Kimmy May were the other scorers.
The Lady Cougars outshot the Eagles 14-9, including a 7-3 margin in the second half. Seven different players recorded a shot for CSU. Bria Riancho played all 90 minutes in net making one save.
It was the second straight season that Columbus State defeated Embry-Riddle to open the year. The victory snapped the Eagles' 11-match unbeaten streak in Daytona Beach.
About the Barry Buccaneers
Barry, a perennial national powerhouse out of the Sunshine State Conference, entered the season ranked 20th in the preseason United Soccer Coaches association poll.
On Saturday, the Buccaneers lost 2-1 in heartbreaking fashion to Queens allowing an own goal in the 86th minute to fall in their season opener. Ellen Cederin was the only scorer for Barry.
The Bucs won both the SSC regular-season title and tournament championship in 2018 and were selected to repeat by the league's head coaches. Sarah Wignall was a second team All-SSC performer last year scoring four goals and adding eight assists.
Series History
Columbus State and Barry haven't met since the 2015 NCAA Tournament quarterfinals with the Lady Cougars grabbing a 2-0 win in Jefferson City, Tenn. Overall, CSU is 4-0 against the Bucs.

- With their victory over Embry-Riddle on Saturday, the Lady Cougars improved to 12-2-2 in season openers in program history.
- CSU also extended their regular-season unbeaten streak to 16.
- Riley Clark continues to climb up the CSU record book. With her goal on Saturday, the senior moved into a tie for sixth place for goals (37) and eighth for total points (85).
- Columbus State won its lone match against a ranked opponent last season defeating second-ranked Carson-Newman 3-2 in Columbus.
- Kimmy May has now scored in three out of the last four matches dating back to 2018.

Lady Cougars Tabbed as PBC Favorites
Columbus State was voted as the PBC preseason favorites by the league's head coaches. It is the fifth straight season that the Lady Cougars have been tabbed as the team to beat.
Three Lady Cougars Named to Preseason All-PBC Team
Riley Clark, Madeline Goodfellow, and Kimmy May were named to the 11-player preseason All-PBC team.
Clark, a 2018 All-American, finished second in the conference in goals (16) and points (39). Goodfellow is one of the strongest defenders in the league helping the Lady Cougars to 10 shutouts. She was also a Google Cloud Academic All-American. May was a postseason hero for Columbus State scoring two goals in the NCAA Southeast Region championship last season. She finished the year with seven goals and 10 assists.

Columbus State was fourth in the United Soccer Coaches association preseason poll. CSU has been ranked inside the top-10 since Sept. 4, 2018.
Entlich Among the Nation's Best
Since starting the program in 2004, Jay Entlich has established CSU women's soccer into a national powerhouse. With an overall record of 260-56-24 at CSU, he is the winningest coach in PBC history. His overall coaching record of 282-72-24 puts him eighth all-time at the NCAA Division II level.
He has coached four PBC Player of the Year award winners and has been named the conference's Coach of the Year in every season since 2014.
