Busy Week Ahead
Columbus State will play three matches in seven days beginning on Monday in Greenwood. After the showdown with Lander, CSU will head to USC Aiken on Thursday, Feb. 25 before returning to the Walden Soccer Complex to host defending PBC champions Flagler College on Sunday, Feb. 28.

DI Showdown
CSU's latest action came on Friday, Feb. 19 as the Lady Cougars traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for a tilt against the University of Alabama. The Lady Cougars outshot the Crimson Tide in the first half but two second half goals secured the victory for UA. Columbus State will have two more Division I exhibitions this spring with dates against the University of South Alabama (March 27) and Mississippi State University (April 1).

Off to the Right Start
The Lady Cougars began the 2020-21 season with a bang scoring four goals in a shutout victory over Young Harris College on Sunday, Feb. 14. It was CSU's first game since Nov. 15, 2019, due to the COVID-19 pandemic shifting the season to the spring.

Streak Continues
The Lady Cougars will enter Monday on a nine-match regular-season winning streak dating back to last season. Ironically, Lander was the last team to knock off Columbus State taking a 3-2 overtime decision last October.

Seeing Double
Senior Maddie Peterson netted her third career multi-goal game against YHC. Last season, Peterson also scored twice during the season-opener against Embry-Riddle University while ending the year with four goals. The Roswell, Ga. native now has 12 career goals.

Helping Machine
Another senior who was a key factor on Valentine's Day was Kimmy May. May picked up a pair of assists in the match after notching four last season. The two-time All-Peach Belt Conference selection continues her assault on the record book as the Columbus native is now seventh all-time in CSU history with 22 career helpers.

Do Not Pass
Senior goalkeeper Bria Riancho posted her 19th career shutout against the Mountain Lions, the third-most all-time by a Lady Cougar. Riancho is also approaching the top-10 in the PBC record book, only two away from cracking the list. In her career, she has appeared in 47 matches, including 44 starts, posting a 44-11-1 record.

The Countdown Is On
Head coach Jay Entlich is quickly approaching a milestone in his illustrious 19 seasons as a collegiate coach. The long-time Lady Cougar coach is five wins away from 300 in his career with 272 coming in the last 16-plus years at CSU.

Last Time Out
Olivia Roth dribbles up the field against Young Harris on Feb. 14, 2021.
Freshman Olivia Roth didn't leave the field for the entire 90 minutes against the Crimson Tide.

Tuscaloosa, Ala. - Two second half goals lifted the University of Alabama to a 2-0 victory over the Columbus State University women's soccer team on Friday. The match took place at the Alabama Soccer Complex.

The Lady Cougars (1-0-0, 1-0-0 PBC) were competitive throughout the match, including outshooting the Crimson Tide in the first half. CSU also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

"I thought we put up a good fight today," commented head coach Jay Entlich. "You always want to win, but we played a very talented group. We can take the lessons we learned and apply them in training to continue to improve as a team."

Columbus State had the first dangerous look as Kimmy Edgeworth made UA goalkeeper Mckinley Crone lay out to keep the match scoreless in the 17th minute. The Lady Cougars kept the possession on the Bama side of the pitch for the final 15 minutes of the half with CSU racking up three corner kicks during the stretch.

It was a corner kick that put Alabama (3-5-2, 2-5-2 SEC) ahead in the 65th minute. Macy Clem found the back of the net off the set piece to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

After Crone had to make another save to keep the Lady Cougars off the board, this time on a Kimmy May attempt, Alabama made it 2-0 on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.

CSU had another shot on goal late in the game, but Crone made the stop to keep the shutout alive.
