Three Cougars Named to All-PBC Team, Bouton Tabbed as Freshman of the Year

Bouton becomes just the second Cougar to be named the PBC Freshman of the Year.

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Three Columbus State University baseball players were selected to the 2021 All-Peach Belt Conference teams on Tuesday, while Isaac Bouton was tabbed as the PBC Freshman of the Year by the league's head coaches.

In addition to being named CSU's first Freshman of the Year since 1998 (Brad Bouras), Bouton was an all-conference selection joining his teammate Robert Brooks on the All-PBC first team. Senior Dane Bullock was voted to the second team for the second time in his Cougar career.

A second-year freshman, Bouton has started all 41 games for the Cougars in 2021, hitting .333 with 17 doubles, two triples and 10 homers. The Marietta, Ga. native leads the conference and is 19th in the nation in doubles to go along with his 42 RBIs. He also ranks inside the top-10 in the PBC in runs (52, T-4th), hits (57, T-7th) and slugging percentage (.626, 10th). The two-time PBC Player of the Week honoree strung together a 42-game on-base streak that carried over from 2020 after reaching base in each of the first 31 games this season. The shortstop holds a .960 fielding percentage in over 150 chances.

Brooks has developed into one of the nation's top power threats in his junior season, becoming just the fifth Cougar in history to hit 20 or more homers in a single season. The catcher is tied for second in the nation with 20 bombs, seventh in total bases (132) and 24th in slugging percentage (.820). Brooks leads the team with 49 RBIs, which are the fourth-most in the PBC, and has a 1.312 OPS. The backstop has put together 13 multi-RBI games and posted two four-hit performances. The Marietta, Ga. product is fourth all-time in homers at CSU with 43 and is now a two-time All-PBC selection.

Bullock has been consistent throughout the year for Columbus State and head coach Greg Appleton. The left fielder is hitting .353 heading into the PBC Championship series with 10 doubles and 10 home runs. He is tied with Bouton for the team lead with 20 multi-hit games, including having at least two hits on nine occasions in a 10 game stretch in late April. The senior is tied for seventh in the PBC in RBIs (46) and also ranks inside the top-10 in doubles. The Fayetteville, Ga. native was named the PBC Player of the Week on April 27 and was also a 2019 All-PBC second team selection.

Columbus State will look to capture the 2021 PBC Tournament championship this weekend against the University of North Georgia in a best-of-three game series at Bob Stein Stadium in Dahlonega, Ga. The winner of the series will earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Southeast Regional.
