Cougars, Pacers to Battle in PBC Tournament Quarterfinals

CSU is looking to defeat the Pacers for the third time this season.

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University men's basketball team is set to begin postseason play on Tuesday, as the Cougars travel to take on USC Aiken in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Cougars battled to the final seconds before dropping an 84-82 overtime contest at Georgia College in the regular-season finale on Saturday. Langston Gaither tied the game with 12 seconds to go, and with time running out in overtime, a last-second, game-winning three was off target. Gaither scored a game-high 26 for CSU.

COUGAR NOTES
• The Cougars enter the PBC Tournament as the fifth seed and will be looking to win its first conference tournament title since 2005. 
• CSU is 39-20 all-time in PBC Tournament play and has won six titles since the inception of the conference in 1992. The six championships are the most by a PBC institution
• Head coach Robert Moore has led the Cougars to four PBC Tournament title games with the last appearance coming in 2020. Under Moore, the Cougars are 9-8 in PBC tournament play 
• CSU has made at least eight 3-pointers in its past four games. During that time, the Cougars are shooting 40.4% (40-for-99) from beyond the arc
• CSU is 13th in the nation (DII level) in fewest turnovers per game (10.4) and 11th in blocks (128). Individually, Nelson Haskin is eighth in blocks (66)
• Haskin needs two blocks to move into a 10th-place tie on the single-season CSU block list with Mario Perryman (1991-94) 
• The Cougars are 5-0 in their last five games weekday games
• CSU is 8-6 this year on the road
• The Cougars are ninth in the most recent NCAA Southeast Region rankings

USC AIKEN NOTES
• USC Aiken (17-11, 11-7) enter the tournament on a two-game losing streak after allowing North Georgia to storm back to win a 69-66 contest in Dahlonega, Ga. on Saturday. They are the fourth seed in the tournament
• USCA is 9-4 in Aiken this season but has lost three of its last four in the Convocation Center, including losing 71-70 to the Cougars last week
• The Pacers have won four PBC Tournament titles, including back-to-back championships in 2013 and 2014
• USCA finished the year 2-6 against teams that finished inside the top-five in the PBC standings
• The Pacers are 17th in the nation steals (240)
• Tehree Horne is sixth in the PBC in scoring (15.9 ppg) and fourth in shooting (51.3%)
• USC Aiken was eighth in the most recent NCAA Southeast Region rankings

SERIES HISTORY
• The Cougars swept the season series from USC Aiken, with both games being decided by a possession
• CSU is 4-1 all-time against USC Aiken in PBC Tournament action. CSU won the last postseason game between the two schools during the 2020 PBC Tournament quarterfinals in Aiken.
• The Cougars are 33-23 all-time against the Pacers, but USCA is 14-13 in Aiken
• CSU has never defeated USC Aiken three times in one season
