TEMPE, Ariz. - The Columbus State University men's tennis team returned to the top of the ITA DII national poll on Thursday.
The Cougars (9-1) jumped back to the top spot after spending the past week at the third position. Barry University (11-4), Saint Leo University (11-3), Hawaii Pacific University (10-0) and Embry-Riddle University (6-2) round out the top five.Â
Individually,
Alvaro Regalado remains ranked one in singles as the senior holds a perfect 9-0 mark.
Javier Cueto Ramos (7-2) is in the rankings at 43rd, while
Tommaso Schold (8-0) is 47th.
The Cougar doubles teams are highly respected with Regalado and Cueto Ramos second and Schold and
Pietro Martinetti fifth. The tandem of Regalado and Martinetti is also 13th.Â
On the women's side, the Lady Cougars (9-4) are back in the top-10 after jumping five spots to eighth. CSU has won five straight matches, including taking down then-ranked 22nd Wingate University on March 18th.Â
Neila Trklja made a major jump in singles play, moving up to 11th in the rankings. Trklja, the reigning Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, vaulted up 11 spots in the poll and is currently on a 5-match winning streak.
Mariana Ramirez is back in the rankings at 73rd in singles action.
In doubles, the Lady Cougar teams of
Valentina Abrile and
Mariana Ramirez are 44th, while
Yelena Labat and
Sara Ramirez are 47th.
Both teams are busy this weekend, hosting three matches. On Friday, the Cougars and Lady Cougar will host PBC rival Augusta University at 2 p.m. at the Walden Tennis Center. AU's men's squad is ranked 22nd andÂ
