COLUMBUS, GA. – The No. 5 Columbus State men's tennis collected its sixth win over a ranked opponent on Friday afternoon, defeating No. 26 Lincoln Memorial University 5-2 at the Walden Tennis Center.
Columbus State is now 11-2 overall, while the Railsplitters fall to 12-7 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Columbus State won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the first point of the match. Senior Thomas Cardona and junior Samer Al Tori won 6-2 on court two, while the senior duo of Daniel Hammond and Benedek Szombathelyi also tallied a 6-2 win at No. 3.
- Singles play opened with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 from senior Yike Liu, and (69) Hammond followed with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph of his own in the sixth flight.
- (26) Cardona finished off the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 1 position, defeating the 60th-ranked singles player via the latest ITA Rankings.
- Sophomore (49) Hugo Didier added a point to the Cougar total with a 7-5, 6-3 win on court two for his seventh win of the season.
