AIKEN, S.C. - The Columbus State University men's and women's basketball teams are set to play at Aiken, S.C. to take on the Pacers of USC Aiken on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m.
For the women, CSU (11-7, 5-5 PBC) is coming off a road-win in which they defeated Georgia College and State 84-79. The win moves the Lady Cougars to a three team tie for fourth place in the Peach Belt, neck-and-neck with Clayton State and Augusta. CSU is 4-4 in away games and is looking to make it two straight road wins. As for the Lady Pacers (12-8, 6-4 PBC), they are locked into third place in the PBC and have won two straight conference games.Â
This game is setting up to be a shoot-out as these two teams are first and second in the conference in points per game, USCA averages 69.3 ppg and CSU averages 72.2 ppg. USC Aiken also has the highest three-point field goal percentage in the conference at 38 percent. Columbus State has a three-headed monster on offense which is led by
Emilia Tenbrock who is averaging 14.9 points per game. She is joined by
Amber Abusbeih and
Olonna Rawls who are averaging 13.2 points per game and 12.9 points per game.
Olonna Rawls is a complete players as she can score from anywhere and she leads the PBC in steals, averaging 2.8 a contest. The Lady Pacers attack is led by Emily Trushel who is averaging 16 points per game, good enough for third highest ppg in the conference.Â
For the men, CSU (11-9, 4-6 PBC) is on as two game win streak, beating Georgia College 69-64 their last time out. Columbus State is led by
Nelson Haskin who is averaging 10.9 points per game, 7.5 rebounds a game, and is currently tied for second in the PBC with 1.9 blocks per game.
Daniel Melvin is coming off one of his best performances in a Cougar uniform as he tied his season high of 21 points. As for the Pacers (15-5, 8-2 PBC), are tied for first in the conference and are 7-2 at home this season. USCA is looking to extend a four game win streak. The Pacers have four players averaging 10 or more points per game and are led by Tehree Horn who is averaging 15.3 per contest.Â
