COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University Athletic Hall of Fame will induct four new members to the illustrious club on Saturday, Oct. 21 in the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center. The Class of 2023 includes former softball student-athletes Amber Browning and Mollie Russell Ladd, former Cougar baseball player Matt Mathews and former women's soccer goalkeeper Monica Sanchez.
As a part of Columbus State's Homecoming week, CSU Athletics is spotlighting each member of the Class of 2023, starting with Amber Browning.
"Being a Columbus, Ga. native it was a dream to step out on the field as a Cougar," said Browning. "As a player, you never think of accolades that may come after playing, you just work your hardest every day to be the best player you can be."
Amber Browning was one of the main contributors during the 2007 softball season at Columbus State University. In her career with the Cougars, Browning pitched 205 innings and recorded a 26-3 record inside the circle, including three no-hitters. She posted a 0.89 ERA, a 1.36 opposing batting average and struck out 285 batters.
Browning led the Cougars to win the Peach Belt Conference Championship and the Southeast Region Championship, finishing third in the College World Series. She was named the PBC Pitcher of the Year in 2007 and was tabbed to the All-Peach Belt Conference First Team. Browning was also selected to the NFCA and Daktronics All-American First Teams.
"To be rewarded for all of my hard work while in a CSU uniform is the biggest and best honor I could receive," commented Browning. "I would like to also thank my teammates and coaches because my success was due to them."
Browning is a mathematics teacher for Muscogee County School District at Northside High School in Columbus where she also coached softball. She graduated from CSU with a bachelor of arts degree in history in 2011 and received a master of education degree in 2012.
