COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University men's and women's basketball teams are ready to host the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes on Wednesday, Feb. 15 inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. center. Both games are sponsored by Stifel, with the women's starting at 5:30 p.m. and the men following at 7:30 p.m.
For the women, CSU (14-8, 8-6 PBC) is coming off a road loss at the hands of Clayton State by a score of 82-62. The Lady Cougars are currently in a four way tie for third place in the PBC. For the Lady Hurricanes, they have been the top dog all year in the Peach Belt Conference averaging 68.2 points per game. The last time these two clashed was on Jan. 25, where GSW edged out CSU by a score of 80-85.
Columbus State will be ready for revenge as they are 7-2 at home. CSU has four players averaging 10 or more points per game but are led by
Emilia Tenbrock with 15.9 ppg. GSW made a statement last game that Tenbrock would not beat them as they held her to four points that game, her second lowest points in a game this season. The Lady Hurricanes are led by Jolicia Williams who hung 30 points on the Cougars last time out.
For the men, CSU (13-11, 6-8 PBC) is coming off a road loss to Clayton State by a score of 66-63. Columbus State currently holds soul possession of sixth place in the PBC with GSW being tied for seventh. This is a huge game for both teams as they try to hold onto a spot in the Peach Belt Conference tournament. For the Hurricanes, they have won two in a row and have a better record on the road, 6-4, than they do playing a home, 6-7.
CSU is led by
Daniel Melvin and
Nelson Haskin who both are averaging over 10 points per game. The Cougars had five players in double-digit points the last time these two teams met. The Hurricanes are led by Phillip Burwell who is averaging 12.2 points per game. Devon Higgs led GSW in points their last game against CSU with 18.
