Basketball to host the USC Aiken Pacers with postseason implications on the line

The women tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. inside the Lumpkin Center

COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University men's and women's basketball teams are set to host the USC Aiken Pacers on Wednesday, Feb. 22 inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center. Both games are sponsored by the Lowell Apartments, with the women's game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game follows at 7:30 p.m.

For the women, CSU (14-10, 8-8 PBC) is coming off a road loss at North Georgia by a score of 87-59. The Lady Cougars drop to sixth in conference and are still in the mix for a higher seed in the conference tournament. For the Lady Pacers, they are currently tied for the second spot with Clayton State and Augusta. These games down the stretch are crucial and the last time these two played, Columbus State beat the Lady Pacers on the road by a score of 90-80. USC Aiken will be looking to return the favor. 

Columbus State has lost three games in a row but have the talent to beat any team at any time. The Lady Cougars have four players averaging double digit points a game: Emilia Tenbrock (15.3 ppg), Amber Abusbeih (13.5 ppg), Olonna Rawls (13.2 ppg), and Letiya Reeves (10.5 ppg). USC Aiken is led by the fourth top scorer in the conference, Emily Trushel, who averages 16 points a game. This should be a high scoring contest as both team score more than 68 points per game. 

For the men, CSU (14-12, 7-9 PBC) is coming off a loss by the hands of the UNG Nighthawks by a score of 92-8. The Cougars are currently in sixth place in the conference and are allowing the lowest opponent field goal percentage in the conference (41%). The Pacers are currently the third best team in the conference but lost to CSU last time out by a score of 80-77 at USC Aiken. 

Columbus State is led by Nelson Haskin who is averaging 11.4 points per game and Jehloni James who is averaging 16.2 points in his last four games. The Pacers are led by Tehree Horn who was the PBC Player of the Week a week ago and Jalen McCoy who is the reigning PBC Player of the Week.
