Men's Track and Field Ally Kerr

Track & Field Finish in Second at PBC Championship

The men's and women's CSU track & field team finished in second place.

Daytona Beach, Fla. – The Columbus State University track and field team closed out the Peach Belt Conference Championship hosted by Embry-Riddle University at the ERAU Track Complex. After the second and final day of action, both the CSU men and women finished in second place, the men scored 204.5 points and the women scored 103.

Men

Field Events

Sophomore Tereil Mitchum won the shot-put final with a program-record throw of 14.23m (46'6"). His new personal best replaces the previous school-record held by James Southern. Mitchum also placed third in the discus throw with a distance of 38.55m (126'5"). 

Jackson Fulks placed fifth in the triple jump and Justin Love took first place in the men's discus throw, bringing home the gold with a distance of 43.75m (143'5").

Track Events

There were many school records that were broken by CSU runners.

Sophomore Dante Walls became a two-time 400m hurdles champion. Walls ran a time of 53.57, breaking the school record formerly held by Gerald Chichester. Grimes placed second running 54.03 sec, followed by Mark Ravenscraft in fifth place with a time of 56.36sec.

Junior Gary Grimes took first place and broke the school record in the 110 hurdles with a wind aided time of 14.53sec.

The Cougars 4x100m relay team consisting of Jailen Dalton, Stacy Lumpkin, Jackson Fulks and Devin Brimidge ran 42.09sec. Brimidge out leaned Embry- Riddle at the line to take first place and bring home the gold.

In the 400m, Savian Taylor placed third with a time of 48.75sec and freshman Mark Ravenscraft placed sixth with a time of 50.67sec.

Sophomore Jailen Dalton brought home two gold medals one in the 100m and one in the 200m. Dalton won the 100 with a time of 10.52sec, and the 200 with a time of 21.23.  

Other team members scoring in 100m were Devin Brimidge (4th), Stacy Lumpkin (5th) and Jackson Fulks (6th). In the 200m, Fulks placed third with a time of 21.50sec and Brimidge placed sixth.

Savian Taylor finished 6th in the 800m with a time of 1:57.43. Blake Lewis finished ninth with a time of 1:58.30. Owen Hartshorn placed 10th with a time of 1:58.85.

In the 3000m Steeple Chase, freshman Elijah Sires finished with a personal best, crossing the line in ninth place with a time of 10:20.36 and a broken wrist. Sires was followed by teammates Nicholas Phillips (10th) and Reece Pasley (13th).

The Cougars 4x400m relay team consisting of Devin Brimidge, Tyler Canon, Dante Walls and Savian Taylor placed fourth with a time of 3:25.50.

Women 

Field Events

Sophomore Cyan Green led the way for the Lady Cougars placing first in the shot put with a throw of 13.10m (42'9"), Green also placed first in the discus throw with a mark of 44.54m (146'1").

Ar'Rionne Hickson placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.58m (37'9"), Hickson also placed fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 35.88m (117'7").

Leaping to a fifth-place finish in the women's triple jump was freshman Deandra Downer. Downer had a mark of 10.44m (34'2") to finish the day.

Clareese Spahn finished her second day of competition in the Heptathlon in third place with 3346 points.

Track Events

Alesia Johnson had a busy day on the track, competing in five events and scoring in all of them. Johnson ran anchor leg for the 4x100m relay and led them to a third-place finish to capture the bronze. Johnson placed fourth in the 400m with a time of 59.22 sec. In the 400m hurdles Johnson placed fifth with a time of 1:13.44. In the 200m Johnson sprinted her way to a sixth-place finish running a time of 26.31sec.

In the 400m De'Aisha Stephens placed sixth, and Amber Elder placed seventh.

Freshman Nakhia Montgomery placed sixth in the 100m with a time of 12.64.

Royal Delay crossed the line at 2:19.79 for seventh place in the 800m.

The Lady Cougars 4x400m relay team consisting of De'Aisha Stephens, Amber Elder, Royal Delay, and Alesia Johnson placed third running a time of 4:04.03 holding off Flagler University to secure second place overall.
