SUMTER, S.C. – Columbus State Women's Tennis competed at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
The Lady Cougars competed in the four-day event, beginning on Saturday, Sept. 28 and wrapping up on Tuesday, Oct. 1. CSU was led by the duo of Nikoline Gullacksen and Mariana Ramirez who secured the Women's Open Doubles title while Gullacksen also highlighted with the Women's Open Singles Championship.
Gullacksen and Ramirez took down North Georgia's Angelina Linnikova and Carolina Reis with a 7-6 set one victory determined by a 7-4 tiebreaker followed by a 6-4 set two, earning the doubles title. The duo went 5-0 through the bracket after a first-round bye and secured their second-straight ITA Southeast Regional Women's Open Doubles Championship.
As for the singles action, Gullacksen earned the title after rolling through five matches which led to Tuesday's final versus Dana Heimen from Flagler (Fla.). Heimen took the first set 6-2, but Gullacksen bounced back with back-to-back 6-2 set victories to take the singles title.
In addition, Ramirez battled her way to the semifinals but gave up the match to Heimen due to injury. She finished the tournament 4-1 in singles play, after starting with bye in the opening round as well.
