COLUMBUS – After an opening weekend of wins, the Columbus State University men's basketball team is set for a road contest at Francis Marion (S.C.) on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Cougars (2-0) continue the season with a bout against the Patriots (0-2) who fell to fellow PBC members USC Beaufort (S.C.) and Flagler (Fla.) this weekend. CSU is 20-10 overall versus Francis Marion, last playing the Patriots in an 80-74 overtime win on Jan. 30, 2021.
Scouting Francis Marion
Francis Marion opened the season in St. Augustine, Fla. for the Southeast Region Crossover, recording a 104-101 loss to USCB on Friday and a 63-85 loss to Flagler on Saturday.
The Patriots are led by Horaces Jacques Jr. who averages 13.0 points per game, with six assists and two steals this season. Adonis Cole leads with four steals and has scored 12 points this season. Jeremiah Jacques is the team leader in assists with eight.
FMU is led by Jake Zehnder who is in his third season at the helm, returning four letterwinners and two starters from last season's team that went 15-13. Zehnder holds a 29-29 record as the leader of the Patriots.
Previewing the Cougars
Columbus State lit up opening weekend in Wilson, N.C. with a pair of wins at the 45 Second Classic.
Jarrett Adderton highlighted with 23 points, four steals, and two assists on Friday night against Barton.
On Saturday, three Cougars found double-digit points with
Jehloni James leading with 27 points.
Roman Son followed with 21 points and a team-leading eight assists with Adderton adding 20 points and six boards.
Kordell Brown gathered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Through two games, CSU averages 92.0 points per game with a 14.0 scoring margin. The Cougars are shooting for 50.4% from the field, 41.3% from three, and 67.4% from the foul line.
