RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Division Two Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announced the 2024 Women's Soccer All-American Teams on Tuesday with a total of three Lady Cougars from the Columbus State women's soccer program being honored.
Columbus State was represented by
Sarah Hungerford and
Vanessa Aviles who earned Second-Team All-American honors while
Kelsey Croft garnered Third-Team All-American honors.
Junior midfielder, Hungerford, has led Columbus State to the NCAA National Semifinals with a stellar 2024 campaign. The native of Richmond Hill, Ga. has tallied 28 points this season and is tied for the lead in total points while being tied as the top goal scorer with 12 goals. She has put together four game-winning goals this season and has registered a shot on goal percentage of 52.9%. This is her first All-American honor of her career.
Aviles, also gathered her first All-American nod as a key competent to the CSU midfield corps. The senior midfielder from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., leads alongside Hungerford with 12 goals while adding two assists for a total of 26 points this season. She has scored a team-leading six game-winning goals and has gone 6-for-6 from the penalty spot.
Defensively, Croft was tabbed as a Third-Team All-American for the first time in her career after helping lead the CSU backline. The sophomore from Douglasville, Ga. has been an anchor for the Lady Cougars and has been crucial in the efforts that have held opponents to just 10 goals all season and an average of just 6.8 shots per game. In addition, CSU's defensive prowess has been evident with a total of 17 shutouts in all competitions.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the three All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first-team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. A total of 39 student-athletes representing 30 different institutions filled out the three teams.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
Hungerford, Aviles, and Croft will help lead the Lady Cougars this weekend in the NCAA National Semifinal match versus Minnesota State Mankato on Friday at 3 p.m. ET in Matthews, N.C.
