Lady Cougars Soccer Hosts West Florida in NCAA National Quarterfinals on Saturday

Action is slated for 3 p.m. ET from the Walden Soccer Complex

COLUMBUS – The top-seeded and second-ranked Columbus State Women's Soccer team hosts first-seeded and sixth-ranked West Florida on Saturday for the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Quarterfinals.

The Lady Cougars (22-0-1) welcome the Argonauts (17-1-3) to the Walden Soccer Complex on Saturday for a 3 p.m. ET kickoff. Both teams last met in the quarterfinals of the 2022 national tournament with Columbus State securing a 4-3 win on home soil.

CSU is coming off three-straight shutouts to begin the tournament and most recently a 2-0 win over third-seeded North Georgia on Sunday for the Southeast Region Championship. As for UWF, they received a bye in the first round and defeated fifth-seeded Nova Southeastern (Fla.) with a 2-1 win and followed with a 3-2 victory over third-seeded Montevallo (Ala.) in the South Region Championship.

Saturday's match up is the ninth all-time between the two sides with an even 4-4 split in the record. Columbus State has won the last four meetings against the Argonauts. Five of the eight matchups have been decided by one goal.

West Florida comes to Columbus averaging 2.33 goals per game and 16.5 shots per contest for a total of 49 goals this season. The UWF defense has held opponents to 14 goals and an average of just 6.3 shots per game.

CSU's defense will need to suppress the attack of Mya Swinton and Emma Beltz, both of which have tallied 11 goals apiece while Swinton leads the team with eight assists for a total of 30 points. UWF's attack has produced six players with double-digit points this season.

The high-powered offense of Columbus State has notched a program-record 100 goals this season and have tallied an average of 4.35 goals per game as well as 23.0 shots per contest. While the attack has been impressive, CSU's defense has been stellar this season by allowing just 10 goals and an average of just 6.7 shots per game.

UWF will have a hard time controlling the CSU attack and will need to minimize the efforts of Vanessa Aviles, Emma Beddow, and Sarah Hungerford. The trio are the team's leading points producers as Beddow leads with 28 alongside Hungerford. Both Aviles and Hungerford lead the team with 12 goals each. The Lady Cougars have produced nine players with five or more goals and 11 with double-digit points.
