COLUMBUS - WRBL continues with the second episode of "On the Prowl," an inside look at Columbus State University Athletics. The weekly 30-minute special covers all things CSU athletics throughout the season in a valued partnership that brings recognition to the Cougars beyond just what happens on the athletic surface.
The content on the screen are brought to you with the help of the talented CSU students in the Department of Communications in an effort to gain experience in the workforce and to highlight our incredible student-athletes, coaches, and teams.
WRBL News 3 goes beyond the box score and highlights to talk about the men and women that represent CSU and the coaches that help lead them. Episode two opens by honoring the legacy of Title IX pioneer Mary Blackmon and her impact on women's athletics at Columbus State and beyond.
Blackmon's impact as the school's first women's head coach in 1959, reached further than CSU as she made strides to help lobby and pass the Title IX legislation for gender equity that was signed into law on June 23, 1972. Blackmon was hired by Frank M. "Sonny" Clements as the volleyball head coach, and later expanded her duties to include coaching tennis. She was honored in 2022 as a recipient of the Frank M. "Sonny" Clements Athletic Director's Award for her impact on CSU Athletics as a whole, laying the foundation of success alongside Clements.
Later in the video, WRBL's
Jack Patterson continues his conversation with Interim Director of Athletics Jay Sparks as they speak on several programs to watch in the 2024-25 season and why the Chattahoochee Valley community should come to campus and support the Cougars. Lastly, WRBL highlights on the recently announce CSU Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee, Kolton Ingram.
On the Prowl will air on Sundays at midnight after the conclusion of News 3's "Sunday Nightwatch."
