Cougars Feed Off School-Day Energy in 78–59 Win

The Columbus State University Men’s Basketball team delivered a strong all-around performance Wednesday morning, in their 78-59 victory over Thomas University at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University Men's Basketball team delivered a strong all-around performance Wednesday morning, in their 78-59 victory over Thomas University at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.

The game was played in front of a lively crowd of 1,356 fans from Muscogee County School District schools, creating an energetic atmosphere as the Cougars controlled the game from start to finish. Columbus State jumped out to an early advantage and carried a 38-23 lead into halftime.

Marlon Smith led the Cougars by posting a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Mitchell added 16 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting effort, including three makes from beyond the arc, while adding eight rebounds, and Pascal Volz contributed 10 points and seven rebounds as Columbus State showcased scoring throughout the lineup.

Columbus State shot 50 percent from the field for the game, outscored Thomas 30-22 in the paint, and consistently turned defensive stops into transition opportunities while holding the Night Hawks to 38.6 percent shooting.

With the win, the Cougars improved to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in Peach Belt Conference play. Columbus State will continue conference action on Saturday, December 20, hosting Augusta University at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center. Tip-off scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
