MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Columbus State University Men's Basketball team put together a complete performance on Wednesday night, pulling away for a 79-58 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia College & State University inside the Centennial Center.
Columbus State controlled the game from the opening tip, building a 41-29 advantage at halftime before matching the effort in the second half with a 38-29 scoring edge. The Cougars used balanced scoring, strong rebounding, and steady defensive pressure to limit Georgia College to just 30.9 percent shooting from the field and 18.8 percent from three-point range.
Jaylen Harris led all scorers with 14 points off the bench, while
Lee Langstaff II added 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists.
Pascal Volz chipped in 12 points, and
Marlon Smith and
Jordan Mitchell each finished with 10 points. Columbus State's depth proved to be a difference, as the Cougars received 30 points from the bench and won the rebounding battle, 50-34.
The Cougars shot 41.3 percent from the field and 89.5 percent at the free-throw line, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities with 15 points and forcing key stops to keep momentum throughout the night.
Columbus State improved to 11–5 overall, and 5–3 in Peach Belt Conference play with the win, and will continue conference action on Saturday, January 17, when the Cougars travel to Americus, Ga., to face Georgia Southwestern State University inside the Storm Dome with a 7:45 p.m. tip-off.
