AMERICUS, Ga. – The Columbus State University Women's Basketball team earned a 75-65 road victory over Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday evening in Peach Belt Conference action inside the Storm Dome.
Columbus State controlled key stretches of the game with balanced scoring, aggressive defense, and efficient free-throw shooting, improving to 13-3 overall and 7-2 in Peach Belt Conference play.
The Lady Cougars used a strong third quarter to create separation, shooting 56.3 percent from the field while converting all nine free-throw attempts in the period. Columbus State finished the night shooting 44.3 percent overall and went 20-of-24 at the free-throw line, capitalizing on turnovers and transition opportunities to build and maintain the lead.
Letiya Reeves and
Samara Saunders led the way with 19 points apiece. Reeves added four rebounds, while Saunders was perfect from the free-throw line (7-for-7) and contributed three steals.
Senali Moss provided a strong spark off the bench with 11 points, and
Nekaya Williams added seven points, six rebounds, and three assists. Columbus State's bench accounted for 21 points, providing key contributions throughout the night.
Defensively, the Lady Cougars forced 27 turnovers and converted them into 37 points, while also holding an edge in fast-break scoring (18-12). Columbus State matched Georgia Southwestern in points in the paint (38) and limited second-chance opportunities in critical moments.
Columbus State will return home on Wednesday, January 21, to host Middle Georgia State University inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
