COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University Men's Basketball team turned in a complete performance Wednesday night, cruising to a 76-58 Peach Belt Conference victory over Middle Georgia State University inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center.
Columbus State controlled the game from the opening tip, building an early lead and never looking back. The Cougars connected on 12 three-pointers and forced Middle Georgia into tough looks all night, holding the Knights to 35.7 percent shooting from the floor and 25.0 percent from beyond the arc.
Jordan Mitchell led all scorers with 20 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting effort, adding seven rebounds and three assists.
Pascal Volz followed with 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while knocking down 3-of-6 from three-point range.
Jaylen Harris provided a spark off the bench, finishing with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-5 from deep.
The Cougars shared the ball effectively, recording 16 assists, and capitalized on transition opportunities with 17 fast-break points. Columbus State also held a slight edge on the glass, 40-38, while committing just 10 turnovers.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 13-5 overall and 7-3 in Peach Belt Conference play, and will continue conference action on Saturday, January 24, when they travel to Greenwood, S.C., to face Lander University at Finis Horne Arena, with tip-off set for 3:30 p.m.
