MONTGOMERY, AL – The 10th-ranked Columbus State women's tennis team opened its 2026 season with a dominant 6-1 victory over No. 21 Auburn University at Montgomery on Friday afternoon at the AUM Tennis Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars opened the match with a point in doubles play, taking the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles decisions.
- The No. 2 duo of freshman Isabell Ek and senior Laura Pesickova won 6-3 at No. 2, while the tandem of redshirt-sophomore Sofia Lauretti and junior Monika Temkova was a 6-1 winner in the No. 3 position.
- Singles play saw Columbus State win five of the six contests to seal the road victory.
- Temkova won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 and Pesickova won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
- Freshman Claudia De Lucas (6-4, 6-4) and junior Maria Markosov (6-3, 6-4) also won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
- Senior Nikoline Gullacksen earned the final point with a 1-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory in the top singles position.
