VALDOSTA, GA. – The 26th-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat at the hands of No. 35 Valdosta State University on Wednesday at the VSU Tennis Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blazers gained an early lead in the match with a hard-fought point in doubles play.
- Senior Laura Pesickova and freshman Isabell Ek won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles before VSU claimed a 6-4 win of their own at No. 3, With the doubles point on the line, Valdosta State emerged from a 7-6 (7-4) fight at No. 2 with a 1-0 match lead.
- Singles play also came down to the wire as Pesickova opened with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 triumph in the No. 5 match.
- Senior Nikoline Gullacksen, ranked 49th overall as a singles player, kept her early-season momentum going with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1, while Ek was a 6-2, 6-4 winner in the sixth position to give CSU a 3-1 lead.
- Valdosta State clawed back to tie the match at 3-all with wins at No. 4 and No. 3, respectively, leaving the second flight as the deciding match point.
- The No. 2 match-up went the distance as the Blazers sealed the victory on their home court with a 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 win.

The Cougars stay on the road as they travel to Monroe, N.C., for a matchup with No. 17 Wingate University on Sunday, March 15. The match-up against the Bulldogs will be Columbus State's fourth straight contest against a Top 40 opponent and third consecutive ranked matchup on the road.
