No. 26 Lady Cougars Take Down 15th-Ranked Wingate

MONROE, N.C. – The 26th-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team tallied a 4-2 win over No. 15 Wingate University on Sunday morning at Monroe High School.

With the win, Columbus State improves to 4-2 overall to start the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 8-3 overall. The win marks CSU's second win over a higher ranked opponent this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wingate won two of three doubles contests to build an early 1-0 advantage in the match.
  • A 6-2 win at No. 2 from senior Laura Pesickova and freshman Isabell Ek gave the tandem its fourth straight win of the year.
  • In singles play, (49) senior Nikoline Gullacksen turned in a decisive 6-4, 6-1 win over 16th-ranked Anastasia Oktiabreva in the top flight.
  • Freshman Claudia de Lucas was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 2 and junior Maria Markosov collected a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
  • Ek won 7-5, 6-2 in her matchup at No. 5 to finish off the day

Columbus State returns home to the friendly confines of the John W. Walden Tennis Center for its next match against the University of Nebraska at Kearney on Friday, March 20. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
