AUGUSTA, GA. – The 19th-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team defeated host Augusta University 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the Newman Tennis Center for its third straight win.
With the win, Columbus State improves to 6-2 overall to start the season, while the Jaguars fall to 4-6 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Columbus State led 1-0 after winning all three doubles contests, beginning with a 6-0 shutout at No. 3 by the duo of grad student Annie Adams and junior Maria Markosov.
- Senior Nikoline Gullacksen and freshman Claudia De Lucas won 6-2 at No. 1, followed by an identical 6-2 win at No. 2 by senior Laura Pesickova and freshman Isabell Ek.
- (27) Gullacksen won 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match, and junior Monika Temkova was a 6-1, 6-3 winner in the second flight for CSU.
- Redshirt-sophomore Sofia Lauretti went the distance for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4, while Pesickova (6-4, 3-6, 6-4) and Ek (6-4, 6-7, 11-9) also won in three sets in the fifth and sixth flights, respectively.
