COLUMBUS, Ga. — Columbus State University softball sophomore
Aubree Ussery has been named the Columbus State Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Chick-fil-A on Macon Road and Manchester Expressway, after a standout performance at the plate last week.
Ussery led the Cougars with a .438 batting average (7-for-16) across five games from March 24-28, recording a hit in four of five contests. She highlighted her week with a dominant showing in the Peach Belt Conference series against Augusta, going a combined 5-for-7 with two runs scored and one RBI, including a 3-for-4 effort in game two. Ussery also added a hit against Montevallo and finished the week with seven total bases, providing consistency in the middle of the lineup.
Defensively, Ussery was reliable when called upon, posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with two putouts and no errors.
A sophomore from LaGrange, Ga., Ussery is a graduate of Heard County High School and is majoring in Biology. When asked what she loves most about her sport, Ussery said, "I love the unpredictability of the game. One pitch or hit can completely shift the momentum of a game. It teaches me to never stay comfortable and never settle."
