14th-Ranked Cougars Win Fifth Straight Contest

AMERICUS, GA. – The 14th-ranked Columbus State women's tennis team ran its current win streak to five games with a 7-0 shutout of Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia Southwestern State University on Friday afternoon.

Columbus State is now 11-4 overall with a perfect 3-0 record in PBC play, while Georgia Southwestern falls to 1-8 on the year with a 0-4 conference mark..

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars did not lose a single match in doubles or singles play, sweeping the double competition for an early 1-0 lead.
  • Senior Laura Pesickova and freshman Isabel Ek won 6-2 at No. 1 for the tandem's sixth straight victory, while grad student Annie Adams and junior Maria Markosov tallied a 6-1 win on court two.
  • Freshman Claudia De Lucas paired with fellow freshman Finley Jeffers, who made her season debut, to win via a 6-0 shutout in the No. 3 doubles contest.
  • Columbus State allowed just five game points across six singles matches, including three 6-0, 6-0 shutouts from De Lucas at No. 2, Ek at No. 4, and Jeffers at No. 6.
  • On court one, junior Monika Temokova collected a 6-1, 6-2 win, while redshirt-sophomore Sofia Lauretti won 6-0, 6-1 in the third flight.
  • Markosov won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 for her fifth straight singles victory of the season.
